Simple Skincare Ritual Ideas

Love is in the air.  It's finding its way into our hearts and minds as a re-connection to self love and self care.  Creating a daily, nightly, weekly or even just monthly skincare ritual is a beautiful way to nurture and love your skin, and your sense of self.  It can be as simple as closing the bathroom door to ensure a few minutes of quiet when you are washing your face and getting ready to start or end the day, or it can be an intentional ritual process that includes an herbal soak in the tub with candles, relaxing music and a gorgeous hydrating mask.  Or a time when you boost your skin's health by working with a Gua Sha tool or roller.  Here are some simple ideas for creating ritual in your skincare routine:

  • Always start with a few moments of deep breathing.  This oxygenates our cells and activates our parasympathetic nervous system to settle us into a state of relaxation.  Be present, gentle and loving with yourself.

  • Wash your hands with care and intention.  This prepares us to touch our face with slow, gentle and rhythmic movement.

  • Spend at least 90 seconds cleansing your skin while you visualize washing away anything that doesn't serve you - tightness, frustration, anxiety, stress.  Be sure to double cleanse if you have been wearing make up - a gentle oil cleanser is the perfect choice for a first cleanse.

  • Mist your skin with a hydrating toner while breathing in deeply.  A gentle rose water mist helps to calm our senses, reduces inflammation and boosts hydration.

  • Massage your moisturizer onto your dampened skin.  Give your face a gentle massage along your jawline, in front of your ears, around your lips and do several lifting strokes along your forehead to reduce tightness and tension.

  • When you have more time to nurture yourself, slip into a bath tub with 20 drops of your favorite essential oil (Holy Basil is a current favorite of ours), or hang a muslin bag of herbs such as rose petals, calendula, lavender and chamomile in the tub while it's filling to infuse the water with the healing properties of these plants.  After cleansing your skin, use a gentle enzyme exfoliator, rinse, and apply a hydrating treatment mask.  We adore the Potent C Superfood Mask from Green Envee!  Light a candle, sip tea and quiet your mind while boosting your skin's health.

  • Take 10 minutes 3 times a week to work with a Gua Sha tool.  This treatment sculpts, tones, tightens pores, boosts circulation and decongests the skin.  (If you purchase a tool from b theory, we give you free access to our online library of Gua Sha tutorials!)
