High Altitudes, High Standards: Mastering the Denver Glow

Living in the Mile High City is a dream for the soul, but let’s be honest - it can be a bit of a workout for your skin. Between our legendary 300 days of sunshine and the kind of "champagne powder" air that’s about as dry as a high mountain desert, your skin is constantly fighting for its life.

Whether you’re hiking a 14er or enjoying a patio brunch in LoDo, the Denver climate presents two major challenges: intense UV exposure and insatiable dryness. Because we are closer to the sun, UV rays are significantly more powerful here, and our low humidity acts like a vacuum, pulling moisture right out of your skin cells.

To keep your complexion resilient, you need more than just a "quick wash." You need a strategy.

The Science of the "80/20 Rule"

Did you know that 20% of how we age is based on our genetics, but a staggering 80% of how we age is determined by our habits? This includes:

  • Sun exposure – (Reminder: there is no safe tan!)

  • Sleep

  • Healthy nutrition

  • Movement

When it comes to topical care, the quality of your products matters. FDA regulations state that over-the-counter products may be formulated to cleanse, beautify, and promote attractiveness without changing the structure and function of the skin. Cosmeceuticals (skincare products that are between over-the-counter and pharmaceutical skincare products), however, are formulated to actually change the structure of the skin.

80% of the changes that happen to our skin occur by having a consistent homecare routine which includes high quality cosmeceuticals, like the products we carry at b Theory Aesthetics. Consistency at home is absolutely key for making big changes to your skin.

Why Your Home Routine is the Real MVP

Think of your skincare like your fitness. A facial is like a high-intensity session with a personal trainer, but your homecare is the healthy eating and daily movement that happens in between.

Homecare routines are an extension of the facial treatment you receive from your esthetician.  The right routine will support the skin’s health, correct and protect the skin, drive long-term change and take away the guesswork and overwhelm of figuring out which products meet the needs of your skin. Homecare maintains the health, protection and progress of your skin’s condition, daily. Results from a facial will plateau without appropriate and consistent homecare.

Your Mile-High Ritual: Step-by-Step

Make your homecare routine a selfcare ritual. Light a candle in a clean and organized space, breathe, take your time cleansing and applying your products. Honor the skin on your whole body by applying a rich and nourishing lotion.

Get the most from your homecare routine with the following general recommendations (remember, we are here to help tailor a skincare routine for your skin’s unique needs and your lifestyle):

  • CLEANSE: For most skin types, cleansing once a day in the evening is perfect. You may want to do a double cleanse - the first cleanse removes SPF, makeup, sweat, and dirt, preparing the skin for the second cleanse which cleans the skin more deeply. In the morning, give your skin a gentle rinse with warm water and pat dry.

  • EXFOLIATE: Gently exfoliate your skin twice a week to support cellular turnover and help achieve a brighter and more radiant complexion. Plus, this prepares the skin to absorb your other essential treatment products more effectively.

  • TONE: Reset the pH level of your skin after cleansing and exfoliating with a hydrating, brightening, and inflammation-reducing toner. Mist toner onto a cotton round or directly onto your skin after cleansing at night and rinsing your skin in the morning.

  • SERUM TREATMENT: While the toner is still damp on your skin, apply hyaluronic serum to boost the hydration in the skin and plump it up. Follow your hyaluronic serum with vitamin C serum in the morning every day to brighten, firm, and protect your skin from the harmful effects of pollution and UV rays.

  • EYE TREATMENT: Apply a hydrating eye cream around your eyes (yes, below and up to your brow) both morning and evening to reduce puffiness, dark circles and crows’ feet.

  • MOISTURIZE: Apply moisturizer both morning and evening and always, always, always apply SPF 30 during the day.

  • LIPS: Don’t forget to hydrate and moisturize your lips!

    • The fix: b Theory-crafted Plumping and Soothing Lip Balm.
